This information went out in our most recent newsletter and is most useful for Alumni looking to network and find jobs.
1) Consulate Job Opening
For anyone with business-level Japanese, the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston is hiring for their Consular section. The full job advertisement is here.
2) Career Fair & Networking via JETAA PNW’s J-Link & Transitions (national, virtual)
The Pacific Northwest JETAA group built an impressive career fair called Transitions, which they’re expanding nationwide and conducting virtually this year, from Sep 20-26.
This means two things for Alumni in Texoma lands:
- You can register for their Opportunities Forum & Networking Expo (schedule and registration info at the link), which includes resume help and more that will be especially helpful for recent returnees and active job seekers.
- If you’re a JET Alum and own or rep a business, you can create a J-Link profile. See some existing J-Link examples here.
Registration is open now through September 18, 2020. One final note for networking:
“On the J-Link registration form you will notice a question regarding our virtual Industry Networking Happy Hour, which will take place on Saturday, September 26th. The event will require a special pre-registration; however, if you choose the option to attend on the registration form, a space will be saved for you and access information will be provided. Attendees will be grouped by industries and we will let participants know in advance which J-Link Representatives will be in attendance.”Lynn Miyauchi, the J-Link Coordinator
More information about Transitions & J-Link
Transitions is PNWJETAA’s annual career and networking event, designed to help JET alumni explore their options and prepare them for whatever path they wish to explore after the JET Program. This year, PNWJETAA will be co-hosting with USJETAA allowing Transitions to reach beyond the Pacific Northwest and welcome participants from across the country. Co-sponsored by The Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA (Sasakawa USA), Transitions has been totally re-imagined as a week-long series of engaging programs incorporating virtual webinar and meeting formats.
J-Link is a place to share, connect and inspire. Originally created to help promote the entrepreneurial ventures of our members, it has expanded to include any of our members, who wish to share their professional journeys and information about companies or groups they either own or wish to represent.
Profiles hosted on the J-Link website provide the opportunity for JET alumni to explore various industries, companies and organizations by contacting representatives, who share the “JET experience” and can answer questions and share information. It also serves as a platform to promote and support members, provide opportunities to network and show the public at large the variety of paths our members take after completing the JET Program.
